If the insured individual dies, procedures need to be taken in connection with disqualification of coverage eligibility. In addition, cash benefits are available to help cover funeral and other costs. Please complete the required procedures to receive these benefits.


Disqualification procedures


Deceased Procedures
The insured individual Immediately return the health insurance card (including all cards for dependents) to the individual in charge of health insurance matters at the insured individual's workplace.
The dependents Submit the "Dependents (Change) Notice" and the deceased's health insurance card within 5 actual working days.

Benefit requirements and benefit amount differences


Benefits will be paid in the event of the death of the insured individual or dependent. These benefits will be paid to the individual bearing the funeral costs (i.e., the family member or friend applying for the benefits). Amounts paid will differ from applicant to applicant. Cases in which death of the insured occurs during work are covered by Workers' Accident Compensation Insurance.

This includes charges and fees for renting a hearse, coffin-bearer charges, cremation or burial charges, charges for funeral offerings, gifts to priests (for chanting sutras), etc. It does not include entertainment costs for attendees (such as the cost of food and drink).

If actual funeral fees exceed the funeral costs specified, the amount exceeding the specified costs will be paid within the limits for payment of the above additional benefits for funeral expenses.
